My art is very "diversified". Many of those entering my studio/gallery ask if I am the artist for everything they see...Yes, I am diversified. Serious oil paintings, watercolor paintings, 3-D sculpture and jewelry are all my work.
I began studying oils with Marcelle Hooks from Raleigh NC. She introduced me to Frank Covino, a third generation Italian painter from Vermont. Under their guidance, I fell in love with the Old Masters style of painting.
More recently I began watercolor lessons with Mary Trowbridge in Wilmington NC. This new medium opened an avenue to channel my previous training into whimsical animals. This has been such a fun experience.
I am not a serious Jeweler...far from it. My wonderful daughter, Rebekah Cigainero (SITA'S CREATIONS on Etsy) influenced me to try jewelry making. It was a case of instant attraction.
My educational background is in Behavioral Science with a Masters in Counseling. This profession was one that chose me rather than making a conscious choice to become a Counselor. After relocating to the Coastal Carolinas, I had the time to devote to this new direction of expression through art. I believe my background working with so many people through the years has enriched my appreciation for visual expression in my work.
I have received recognition for oil, watercolor and sculpture from local and regional juried art shows and honored by the state of North Carolina for my Old Masters paintings. Although I am thrilled to receive the recognition, my connection with those viewing and appreciating my art brings the greatest joy.
Old Masters style of painting is dear to my heart, very formal. I become totally immersed in values and details for hours, losing track of time.
Love, love to bring whimsical characters to life through my paintings and sculpture. They make me smile, and when others join me, it's heartwarming.
Art brings people from all walks of life together. It's a tool for sharing and exploring viewpoints. This interaction is special.
